Living with multiple sclerosis (MS) for nearly two decades has been a rollercoaster of challenges. From navigating life in a wheelchair to battling relentless brain fog, my journey has been anything but easy. However, a dietary shift I never thought I’d try has brought remarkable changes to my life. Today, I’m sharing my story of how the carnivore diet helped me gain clarity, energy, and a renewed sense of hope. Let’s dive in!
Why I Decided to Try the Carnivore Diet
For years, I followed a plant-based diet that left me feeling anything but vibrant. Despite my love for meat, I was stuck in the mindset that red meat was unhealthy and potentially harmful. It wasn’t until a couple of friends and my trainer introduced me to the idea of the carnivore diet that I began to take notice. At first, I was skeptical. How could a diet centered solely on animal products possibly improve my health?
It wasn’t until I stumbled upon stories of others with MS experiencing major improvements on this diet that it truly caught my attention. One story in particular struck a chord—someone with a similar level of disability as mine had seen incredible progress. Combined with the encouragement of an acquaintance who had been following the carnivore lifestyle for over a year, I decided it was time to take the leap. My husband joined me as we embarked on this dietary experiment together.
What Changed After Six Months
After six months on the carnivore diet, I can confidently say it has been a game-changer for me—not just physically, but mentally and emotionally as well. Here are some of the most notable improvements I’ve experienced:
- Brain Fog Lifted: The persistent brain fog that clouded my thoughts for years is gone. My mind feels clear, sharp, and focused, allowing me to hold meaningful conversations and even start planning activities again.
- Improved Bladder Control: One of the most freeing changes has been the improvement in my bladder issues. I can now hold it longer, which makes outings far less stressful.
- Reduced Fatigue: While I still experience some fatigue, it’s noticeably lighter. I now have bursts of energy that make me want to get up and do more.
These changes have given me a renewed sense of purpose and joy. I’m excited to socialize, make plans, and engage in life again. It’s like stepping out of a dark tunnel into the sunlight. However, it’s not all smooth sailing just yet.
The Challenges That Remain
While the mental and emotional benefits have been profound, my physical mobility continues to be a struggle. After nine years of relying on a wheelchair or mobility scooter, progress in this area is slower than I’d like. I feel mentally energized and ready to take on the world, but my body still has limitations.
To cope with these challenges, I’ve turned to meditation. It keeps me grounded, helps me manage frustration, and provides tools to deal with the ups and downs of my journey. I’m learning to celebrate every small win while being patient with the process.
Why I Started Documenting My Journey
Starting this blog (and a YouTube channel!) was a direct result of the mental clarity and energy I’ve gained from the carnivore diet. For years, I was held back by fear and insecurity, but now I realize that sharing my journey can be empowering—not just for me, but for others navigating similar challenges.
Life had gotten monotonous with my mobility issues, often revolving around Netflix binges and staying home. I decided to turn that time into something productive and meaningful. Documenting the good, the bad, and everything in between has been a way to keep my brain active while also building a supportive community of like-minded individuals.
What’s Next on This Journey?
As I continue exploring the carnivore diet, I plan to dive deeper into the science behind it and how it specifically impacts MS symptoms. I’ll also share a detailed breakdown of the symptoms that have improved and those I’m still working on. This is just the beginning, and I’m thrilled to have you alongside me on this journey.
